stay と leave を使った句動詞いろいろ

句動詞（phrasal verb )は take care (世話をする）、put off (延期する）など「基本動詞＋α」です。軽い響きがして会話中で頻繁に用いられます。対照的に書き言葉で用いられる動詞をビッグワードと言います。investigate(調べる）、ascertain(突き止める）などですね。これらはそれぞれ look into や find out といった句動詞で言い表すことができます。

今回は stay と leave を使った句動詞を例文でチェックしていきます。

stayを使った句動詞いろいろ

He stayed away from her at the party yesterday.
昨日パーティで彼女に近づかなかった。

I stayed in watching TV all day long.

entice と encourage のニュアンスの違い

entice と encourage は日常会話でも良く使う単語だと思います。

entice は何か魅力的なものや楽しそうなものを見せることにより人の注意をひいたり、行動を起こすように仕向けること。誘惑すること。そそのかすこと。

encourage はもっと直接的に人に対して勇気づけたり、～するように励ましたり,

行動を促したりすることですね。

バラバラを英語で表現

日本語で「バラバラ」はとても便利な言葉ですが、英語ではシーンに応じて適切な言葉を用いる必要があります。例文でチェックしてみてそのニュアンスの違いを感じ取ってみましょう。

paper scoop

scoopは名詞では小さなシャベル、スコップ、料理用のおたま、ひしゃくなどを言います。特ダネを意味する scoop もこの scoop です。すくい上げたものということでしょう。

動詞ではscoop はすくう、すくいあげる、すくい出すとなります。
