基本動詞 get の用法いろいろ

動詞 get は「苦労して手に入れる」という大きな意味があり、そこからさまざまな用法が派生して生まれています。

 1. get 人／状況　　～を理解する

I got it!

わかった！

Sorry, I didn't get it.

ごめん、わからなかった。

I don't get you.

君の言っていることが分からない。

Do you get the point?

要点は分かった？

It is hard to get what she wants me to do.

彼女が僕に何をしてほしいのかわからない。

2. get  状態を表す形容詞　次第に～になる

Everyone doesn't want to get old.

誰もが歳をとりたくない。

I'm getting bored.

退屈になってきちゃった。

My mother is getting better.

母は良くなってきている。

I got drunk last night.

昨夜は酔っぱらっちゃた。

I got mad at my boss.

上司にブチぎれちゃった。

3. get to 場所　　～に着く

Did you get to Tokyo?

東京に着いた？

I have to get home early today.

今日は早く帰らなくては。

＊homeは名詞でなく副詞なので前置詞 to は不要

When are you going to get there?

いつそこに着くの？

＊thereは副詞なので前置詞 to 不要

How can I get to the postal office?

郵便局にはどういうふうに行ったらいいですか？

4. get in 乗り物       

　　（主に内部で立てない乗り物の場合　車など）

He got in the car.

彼は車に乗り込んだ。

Get in the taxi right away!

すぐにそのタクシーに乗って！

Why are you hesiting to get in?

どうして乗るのをためらっているのですか？

He got in through the window.

彼は窓から乗り込んだ。

5. get out (of 乗り物）

Can you get out?

降りてくれる？

 We have to get out here.

ここで降りないと。

The student couldn't get out.

その生徒は降りられなかった。

The movie star just got out of the taxi.

その映画スターはちょうどタクシーから降りた。

6. get up   起きる

I don't need to get up early today.

今日は早く起きなくていい。

Get up, you are late !

起きなさい、遅刻よ！

She is used to get up really eraly.

彼女はとても早く起きるのに慣れている。

7. get along (with 人)   ～と仲良くする

They are getting along well.

彼らは上手くやっている。

I get along with him.

私は彼と仲が良い。

They aren't getting along well.

彼らは仲が悪い。

Getting along with people is something difficult for me.

人とうまくやるのが苦手だ。

8. get over 苦境　　～を克服する

She thought that she woud never get over the flu.

彼女はインフルエンザから回復できないかと思った。

It took her years to get over the death of her father.

彼女は父親の死を乗り越えるのに何年もかかった。

It took him years to get over Mary when she ended the relationship.

メアリーに振られてから、彼が彼女を忘れるのに何年もかかった。

9. get through 試験　～に合格する

Do you think she will get throuh the exam?

彼女は試験に合格すると思う？

I got through the math exam.

数学の試験に通った。

10. get down to 仕事／課題　～に取り組む

Let's get down to business.

よし、仕事にとりかかろう。

I've got a lot of work to do, but I can't get down to it at the moment.

仕事はたくさんあるんだけど、今は取り組めそうにないよ。

It's time to get down to work.

仕事にとりかかる時間だ。

We got down to discussing the issue.

わたしたちはその問題の議論にとりかかった。
