「台風」に関する英語表現

今年は台風の当たり年ですね。台風に関する表現を集めてみました。台風24号の通過中にこの記事を書いています。

1．台風接近中の表現

The typhoon No.19 has formed off the coast of the Philippines.

台風19号がフィリピン沖に発生しました。

The typhoon is approching to Okinawa.

台風が沖縄に接近中です。

2．台風上陸の表現

Typhoon No.24 hit Shikoku and Kyushu.

台風24号は四国と九州を襲った。

The super typhoon made landfall close to Wakayama.

超大型台風が和歌山付近に上陸した。

Osaka is in the eye of the typhoon now.

大阪は今、台風の目に入った。

3．台風の影響に関する表現

The Osaka -Kanjo line stopped due to the typhoon last night.

大阪環状線は昨夜、台風のせいでストップした。

The school will be closed because of the typhoon.

学校は台風のせいで休校になるでしょう。

The trains might be off-schedule due to the typhoon.

台風のせいで電車のダイヤが乱れているかもしれません。

Typhoon No.21 did big damage to Kansai international airport.

台風21号は関西国際空港に大きな被害をもたらした。

 The blackout caused by the typhoon lasted for 24 hours.

台風によって発生した停電は24時間続いた。

A storm surge is the scariest thing brought by a typhoon.

高潮は台風によってもたらされる最も怖いものです。

4．差し迫った状況の表現

We evacuated to the gymnasium of the neighboring elementary school.

私たちは近くの小学校の体育館に避難した。

The Meteological Agency gave a storm warning for Aichi and Mie.

気象庁は愛知県と三重県に暴風警報を発令した。

The river is almost overflowing.

川があふれそうだ。

The roof of our house has blown off.

私たちの家の屋根は飛ばされてしまった。

I was almost dying due to the flood.

洪水で死にかけた。

The landslides hit the village.

土砂崩れが村を襲った。

5．台風が通過した時の表現

The typhoon is gone.

台風は行ってしまった。

※has より is の方が遠くへ行ってしまった感が強い

オンライン英会話を始めて通算2700回目くらいのレッスン。

前半７～８分ほどはいつものダラダラスモールトーク。接近中の台風と衣替えについて。そのあと古着屋さんについて話す。

The article is about the worlds first hydrogen train in Germany.   Hydrogen trains emit only steam and oxygen. That's why they are very eco-friendly. Many people find them as one of the best way to reduce the effect of global warning.

記事はドイツの世界初の水素電車に関するものです。水素電車は蒸気と酸素しか放出しません。したがって非常に環境に優しいものです。多くの人が地球温暖化の影響を減少させる最良の方法と考えています。

However, I'm concerned about their safety. Because hydorogen is extremely explosive gas.

しかし、私はその安全性に懸念を持っています。なぜなら水素は非常に爆発しやすいガスだからです。

Once it explodes in a tunnnel, for examples, no one can rescue passengers and crews.　And also initial cost is quite expensive when they are built.  I guess It will take long time until they become more common in Europe. 

たとえばトンネル内で爆発しようものなら、誰も乗員や乗客を救出することはできないでしょう。また製造時の初期コストはたいへん高いです。私は水素電車がヨーロッパで一般的になるのにはまだまだ時間がかかると思います。

簡単な記事で特に話すのに困る、戸惑う箇所は無し。

道案内の英語

1．場所を尋ねる時の表現

How do I get to Tokyo Station?
東京駅まではどのように行きますか？

How can I get to Osaka Station?
大阪駅まではどうやったらたどり着けるでしょうか？

Could you tell me where Kyoto Station is?
京都駅の場所を教えていただいてもよろしいですか？

Where is the closest station?
ここから一番近い駅はどこですか？

I’m looking for Okayama Station.
岡山駅を探しています。

2. 道を教える時の表現

At first, Go down this street.
まずはこの道をそのまま行ってください。

And you'll see Mitsukosi department store on your left hand and turn right there.
すると左手に三越が見えてきますからそこで右に曲がってください。

And go past a 7-eleven convienience store, finally you'll get to the postal office.

そしてセブンイレブンを通り過ぎて下さい。最後に郵便局にたどり着くでしょう。

The quickest way is to go straight this alley.

この路地をまっすぐ進んでください。

Go along Meiji street for 10mins.
明治通りに沿って10分歩いてください。

Go along this street for 5 minutes.

この通りを道なりに５分ほどいってください。

Go under the bridge and you'll find the station.
橋の下をくぐってください。そうすれば駅が見えてきます。

Go over the railway crossing.

踏切を越えて下さい。

Don’t cross the road, it’s on this side.
こちら側の通りにあるので反対側に渡らないでね。

3．場所を説明する表現

The place you want to go is next to a bookstore.

あなたの行きたい場所は本屋の横にあります。

The postal office is opposite a department store.
郵便局はデパートの向かいにあります。

A flowershop is between the bookstore and the supermarket.

花屋が本屋とスーパーマーケットの間にあります。

My apartment is near the station

私のアパートは駅の近くです。

It's around the corner.

それはだいたい角にあるよ。

Mitsukoshi is on Ginza street.

三越は銀座通りにあります。

「通勤」に関する表現

通勤というと commute という単語を思い浮かべがちですが、それ以外にもいろいろな表現が可能です。

I go to work by bus and train.

バスと電車で通勤している。

My boss come to work from a great distance.

私の上司はずいぶんと遠くから通勤している。

My office is within easy commuting distance.

私のオフィスは楽に通勤できる距離にある。

Utsunomiya is within commuting distance of Tokyo.

宇都宮は東京の通勤圏内だ。

I'm exhausted by commuter's hell.

通勤地獄で疲労困憊だ。

She commutes from Kamakura to Yokohama.

彼女は鎌倉から横浜まで通勤している。

The train was jammed with many commuters.

列車は通勤客で満員だった。
