前方後円墳は英語でなんて言うのだろう

ユネスコは公式に日本の古代墓群を世界遺産に指定した。

大阪の古墳群が世界遺産に登録されました。明るいニュースですね。

そこでこの地域に多い前方後円墳はなんていうのだろうと思い、カシオの電子手帳EX-Wordの中の辞書で調べてみました。

keyhole形ですか。でも最近のカギ穴の形って必ずしも前方後円墳のような形をしていないですしね。いずれにしても言葉のみで絵なしで説明するのはかなり難易度が高そうです。

もし私が前方後円墳を説明すると

Zenpou-kouenfun is one of the typical Japanese ancient tombs built in 4th or 5th century. It can be divided two parts. It's front is a square shape and  rear is a round shape. 

前方後円墳は４世紀または５世紀に築造された古代日本の典型的な墓です。二つの部分に分けられ、全部は四角い形で、後部は丸い形をしています。

日本の捕鯨再開に関する記事です。オンライン英会話のフィリピンではクジラを捕って食べる習慣はありありません。どちらかというと捕鯨反対なのではないでしょうか。

会話中上手く言えなかった文章

Japanese government ha s already decided to lower the age when students begin learning English from 7th grade to 4th grade.

日本政府はすでに英語教育の開始年齢を中学１年生から小学校４年生に引き下げることを決定している。

※「引き下げる」の lower が出てこなかったですね。とっさに change the age で対応してしまいました。

can be と can't be の用法

肯定文　can be

It can be true.

 本当かもしれない。

What you said can be true.

あなたの言っていたことは本当かもしれない。

Can it be true?

それは本当だろうか。（そんなことあり得るのだろうか？）

It can be possible.

それは可能かもしれない。

Marathon can be dangerous.

マラソンは危険なこともある。

否定文　can't be

She can't be ill. I just saw her fifteen minutes ago.

彼女が病気のはずがない。１５分前に会ったばかりだ。

It can't be true.

本当のはずがない。（そんなバカな）

You can't be hungry. You just ate a hotdog.

お腹がすいているわけがない。今,ホットドッグを食べたばかりじゃないか。

I can't be wrong.

私が間違えているわけがない。

It can't be helped.

しょうがないさ。

It can't be a coincidence.

決して偶然ではないはずだ。

can be で可能性を、can't be で強い否定を表します。

私の言いたいことを事前にまとめます。

That's the trend of the times.

これは時代の流れです。

In twenty-century,  lifetime employment was not surprising.

20世紀、終身雇用は当たり前だった。

At the times, drinking parties after work were good occasions to show their royalty to the companies.

当時、仕事の後の飲み会は会社への忠誠心を見せるいい機会だった。

However lifetime employment has been broke down recently.

しかし近頃、終身雇用制度は崩壊してきている。

I think it's no problem if employees don't join drinking parties.

私は飲み会に参加しなくても問題ないのではと考えています。

And fathers should help out more at home.

そして父親は家事をより手伝うべきだと思います。

私も飲み会より一人の時間が欲しいタイプです。
