「通勤」に関する表現

通勤というと commute という単語を思い浮かべがちですが、それ以外にもいろいろな表現が可能です。

I go to work by bus and train.

バスと電車で通勤している。

My boss come to work from a great distance.

私の上司はずいぶんと遠くから通勤している。

My office is within easy commuting distance.

私のオフィスは楽に通勤できる距離にある。

基本動詞 turn の用法いろいろ

1. turn (方向）

Turn right and you will find the station.

右に曲がったら駅が見えるよ。

Turn left.

左に曲がって。

Turn left at the third corner.

3番目の角を左に曲がって。

Go straight until you get to the police station and turn reight.

交番までまっすぐ進んでそこで右に曲がってください。

2. turn up 電化製品　　～を強める、～の音量を上げる

Don't turn up the TV.

テレビの音量を上げないで。

Turn up the AC, please.

エアコンを強めて下さい。

Turn up the light for me,please.

灯りを明るくしてください。

Turn up the music.

音楽の音量をあげて。

3. turn 状態を表す形容詞または turn into 名詞　　～になる

The leaves are turning red due to the cold wave.

寒波の影響で木の葉が赤くなってきた。

I will turn 20 in October.

十月で二十歳になります。

Finally, Lisa turned into a model.

ついにリサはモデルになった。

The prince turned into a beast.

王子は野獣になった。

4. turn on 電化製品　　～をつける

Can you turn on the TV?

テレビをつけてくれる？

The old man turn on the gas and lit the stove.

年老いた男はガスの栓をひねりコンロに火をつけた。

James turned on his PC.

ジョンはコンピューターの電源を入れた。

Why can't I turn the light on?

5．turn back       引きかえす

We will turn back if it is stormy condition.

6. turn out 名詞／形容詞　　結果的に～となる

Everything is going to turn out fine.

すべて大丈夫そうだ。

I hope things turn out all right.

物事がうまくいくことを願っています。

I don't know why it turned out like this.

7. turn to ページ　　ページを開く

Turn to page 10.

10ページを開きなさい。

8. turn down 依頼／提案など　　～を断る

She turned down his offer.

彼女は彼の申し出を断った。

Tom proposed me but  I turned down.

トムは私にプロポーズしたが私は断った。

Why did you turn down such a great proposal ?

どうしてそんなすごい提案を断ったの？

9. turn against 人／モノ／状態　　～を敵にまわす、～に反する

All supporters turned against them.

全ての支持者が彼らの敵にまわった。

My stepmother is turning against me.

継母は私に敵対している。

The rival factions are turning against one onother.

対抗する派閥が敵対し合った。

Many people had turned against the war.

10.　 at every turn   絶えず、いつも

I'm frustrated at every turn by petty rules.

取るに足りない規則にはいつもいらいらさせられる。

基本動詞 come の用法いろいろ

1. come 　来る

My teacher came to see us.

私の先生が私たちに会いに来ました。

He has come a long way.

彼は長い道のりをやってきた。

2. Come on　　さあ行こう。急いで。

Come on, let's go !

さあ、行こう！

Come on, we are late.

急いで、遅刻だ。

3. come up with 考え　　～を思いつく

How did you came up with it ?

どうやってそれを思いついたんだい？

I came up with a great idea.

私は素晴らしい考えを思いついた。

My subordinate came up with the solutions.

私の部下が解決策を思いついた。

I haven't came up with any ideas  yet.

まだどんな考えも思いついていません。

4. come by   立ち寄る

I will come by to see you.

君に会いに立ち寄るよ。

Come by whenever you like.

お好きな時にいつでも立ち寄って。

Why don't you come by for lunch ?

昼ごはんに寄らない？

5. come for 人／モノ　

My dad came for me at 3pm .

お父さんが午後３時に迎えに来てくれた。

The taxi comes for the patient at around 9 every morning.

タクシーが毎朝９時ごろに患者を迎えに来る。

I have come for my son because of the typhoon.

台風なので息子を迎えに来ました。

I have come for the dictionary you borrowed from me.

君が僕刈り借りた辞書を返してもらいに来たよ。

6．come off （モノ）  (～から）外れる、取れる

I was surprised because the handle came off.

ハンドルがとれたのでびっくりした。

Tis lid is not coming off.

フタが外れない。

A button has come of.

ボタンがとれちゃった。

7.  come to a conclusion    結論を出す

I came to conclusion that Ken was only interested in himself.

ケンは自分にしか興味がないという結論に達した。

The meeting was very long but we couldn't come to a conclusion.

会議はとても長かったが結論にはいたらなかった。

She came to a conclusion that it's better for her to quit her job.

仕事をやめたほうがいいという結論に彼女は達した。

8. come across 人／モノ　　～を偶然見つける、～に出くわす

I came across these old pictures.

古い写真を偶然見つけた。

Reserchers have come across an important evidence.

研究者は重要な証拠を偶然見つけた。

You will come across the world you have never seen before.

君は見たことのない世界に出会うだろう。

9.  come down with a cold 　風邪をひく

I came down with a cold last week.

先週風邪をひいた。

Why did you came down with a cold last week?

どうして先週風邪をひいたの？

10. come to one's senses   正気に戻る、真面目になる

My elder sisiter came down to her senses and got a job.

彼女は真面目になって仕事に就いた。

My younger brother came down to his senses and gave up to quit his job.

彼はまじめになって仕事をやめるのをやめた。

The president should come to his senses and give up increasing tax.

大統領は正気になって増税をやめるべきだ。

１．「順番」に関する表現

The students lined up in order.

生徒たちは順番に並んだ。

The students lined up in order of hight.

生徒たちは身長順で並んだ。

We'll tuckle in order of priority.

優先順位をつけて取り組んでいこう。
